The Nvidia Shield has earned its spot as the flagship Android TV set-top box. The Nvidia Shield is maybe the most powerful set-top box from the big five set-top box makers. The current Nvidia Shield has four times the processing power of the current Fire TV 2, according to Nvidia.
Now we can confirm a new Nvidia Shield just passed through its FCC filing as did a new remote and controller thanks to AFTVnews. According to the filing the new remote will be smaller and will not include the headphone jack on the controller; however, it could still be on the remote.
The new model number is P2897 abd FCC ID VOB-P2897 and the current model number for the Nvidia Shield is P2570.
For now that is all we know as most of the documents are redacted. Yet we would not be surprised to find out there is a new processor and graphics card inside the new Nvidia Shield. According to rumors the graphics chip in the current Nvidia Shield will be in the new Nintendo game system. Nvidia likely wants to free up inventory to meet the demand that Nintendo is likely to need for their new device.
There are also rumors the new Nvidia Shield will be similar to the Slim Xbox not necessarily a new more powerful system but a smaller and possibly cheaper version.
For now we know little beyond the fact that there is a new controller and that the product ID points to a new device. So if you are thinking about a Nvidia Shield, I wouldn’t wait because it could be some time before we get the new device.
