“Like many people that have cable or satellite TV service, I’ve seen this development where there are new charges appearing on my bill and other people’s bills that are adding up to more than what I thought I was paying a month,” said Moriarty, chairman of the Assembly’s Consumer Affairs Committee. “I figured we can probably do something about it in our state and put a stop to this.”
This new bill would force companies like Comcast to advertise the true cost of the cable TV bill. This means Comcast would no longer be able to hide fees like Broadcast TV and Regional Sports fees in their bills. They would now need to be included inside the advertised price Comcast promotes in New Jersey.
According to recent reports from Consumer Reports, these bills can easily add up to be over $400 a year. Now this bill would put an end to these hidden fees that are not included in the advertised price.
Bills like this have been proposed before but so far have failed to pass. It will be interesting to see if this bill makes it to law. Cord Cutters News will be watching it closely to see if this bill passes.
