A New & FREE Live TV Streaming Services Launches on Roku in the UK

UK cord cutters now have a new option if they own a Roku streaming player. Starting this week TVPlayer will be available on UK Roku players, giving cord cutters 75+ free to air TV channels.

“We are very excited to be launching on Roku streaming players in the UK,” said Frank Bowe, chief commercial officer of TVPlayer.

“Our presence on the Roku platform represents another significant step forward in TVPlayer’s distribution strategy, which is to make premium live TV, on demand and digital shows available within the TVPlayer app across all OTT platforms.”

Supported channels include BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and Dave. UK cord cutters will also be able to pay 5.99 pounds per month to remove advertising if they would like an ad-free experience. With the paid package subscribers will also get an extra 25+ premium channels such as the Discovery Channel, TLC, Eurosports 1, and the History channel in addition to a 7-day catch-up service.

Sadly a system like this is unlikely to come to the United States. The UK government helps support channels such as the BBC through a yearly tax for all UK citizens even if you do not want to watch the channel. The United States has no such system and would make supporting a service such as TVPlayer difficult.
