We Have New Details on Comcast’s New Sling TV Like Streaming Service

It looks like Comcast is starting to get closer to a release date for their live TV streaming service. Now we know the name of the service “Instant TV” and a rough timeline for its release.

So far a channel lineup is unknown but it sounds like Comcast plans to keep the service inside their current footprint to allow for locals to be included. We do know that Instant TV will be offered on mobile devices and certain TV-connected devices, (likely to include Apple TV and Roku as Comcast already has apps there) and will include a cloud DVR. Though it will be an in-home only service not meaning outside the house you are likely to be limited to mobile devices.

The service will also be very similar to Sling TV according to reports. It will start with a very small base package and have multiple add-ons to pick from. Comcast also announced that they plan to launch the service in the 3rd quarter of 2017 so sometime between now and the end of September 2017.

“This [Instant TV] is not something that we’ll do broad-based in terms of our approach to the market,” Watson said. “This is going to be very targeted, primarily digital in nature in how we do it.”

“It’s ideal for certain segments and millennials,” Dave Watson Comcast’s president and CEO said in Comcast’s earning call today. “We’re going to compete vigorously across the board for every segment.”

However, he stressed that Comcast will continue to focus on its traditional cable TV X1 full-freight pay TV offering. “This [Instant TV] is not something that we’ll do broad-based in terms of our approach to the market,” Watson said. “This is going to be very targeted, primarily digital in nature in how we do it.”
