However, there still has yet to be a standard set of rules for companies to start building tuners and transmitters to use the new 3.0 OTA standard with.
Now the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), the group tasked with creating the new 3.0 OTA standard, has announced that they will be holding an event at CES to “mark a milestone that is expected to be reached next week—the delivery of the first complete set of ATCC 3.0 standards for deployment by the broadcast industry.”
“The release of ATSC 3.0 will be the culmination of a five-year effort to re-think broadcast television in the Internet age. ATSC 3.0 provides broadcasters with remarkable flexibility, new market opportunities, enhanced transmission and reception functionality, and delivery of interactive services using a mix of Internet and broadcast connections,” the Advanced Television Systems Committee said in a statement sent to Cord Cutters News.
This new standard will allow companies to start building OTA 3.0 devices for the end user. Look for a flood of new 3.0 devices in the months to come now that we have a standard to build from.
