Netflix’s Tiger King is Currently TVs Most Popular Show

If you’ve been on social media lately, you’ve likely seen conversations, memes, and articles about the new Netflix series Tiger King. The true crime docuseries premiered on March 20 and has become the most popular current TV show, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Tiger King has earned a 97% critic’s rating and a 96% audience score, making it more popular than Netflix hits like Ozark and USA’s Queen of the South, Variety reports.

Last month, Netflix announced a new feature on the app, listing the top ten movies and TV shows in the US. According to that list, Tiger King was the number one most watched title over the weekend, both overall and specifically for TV shows.

Here’s the official Netflix description for Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness: A zoo owner spirals out of control amid a cast of eccentric characters in this true murder-for-hire story from the underworld of big cat breeding.

Filmmakers Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin created the docuseries that follows Joe Exotic, a “gun-toting operator of an Oklahoma big cat park” and his rival Carole Baskin, an animal rights activist and nonprofit founder. Throughout the series, you’ll meet a full cast of eccentric characters, learn that there’s a serious demand for pets that could kill a person at any given moment, and question whether a murder-for-hire plot was all a set up.

Forbes calls the series “an unmissable, ugly portrait of humanity.” Twitter users are overwhelmingly describing it as “a complete train wreck.” Netflix is calling it a win, while many stayed in over the weekend with plenty of time to get through the seven episodes, each a bit more wild than the last.
