Netflix Suspends Phone Customer Support, Hulu and Disney Scale Back

Women Using LaptopWith customer service requests ramping up as more and more people are spending their time streaming content, Netflix has suspended customer support by phone for the time being. Netflix explains that focusing on chat support is allowing agents to help more people while working from home.

“The COVID-19 crisis has meant that thousands of our customer support agents are unable to work, or are now having to work from home,” says a message on the Netflix support page. “So our wait times are higher than normal. We’re working hard to provide the best support we can under the circumstances, and apologize for the delays you are experiencing.”

While Hulu is still offering phone support, it has scaled back, now offering support via phone from 4am-8pm PT daily rather than the 24/7 support offered previously.

Disney+ is also still offering phone support, but is pushing chat support instead. A message on the website says “We are currently experiencing longer than normal wait times on our live chat, but an agent will assist you as soon as possible.”

While these changes are currently being presented as temporary in response to COVID-19, do you think the shift to online-only support will continue after work from home mandates are lifted? Let us know in the comments.
