Netflix Saw Record Viewership in December with ‘Bridgerton’ Reaching 63 Million Homes

A new Netflix report shows the streamer had record viewership numbers in December as well as the holiday week of Dec. 25-31. The streaming giant clocked the most streaming time and average view hours per subscriber in its history.

Netflix released several new major titles during the month, including the original series Tiny Pretty Things, Selena: The Series, and movies including The Prom, and George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky. The streamer also dropped We Can Be Heroes and it’s period drama series Bridgerton on Christmas Day, the latter of which is on track to reach 63 million households within its first 28 days of release.

Netflix is usually stingy when it comes to revealing user data, but seems to love celebrating its major wins like this one. It’s also important to note that Netflix counts a view as a subscriber who watches uninterrupted for 2 minutes.

Nevertheless, Bridgerton is turning out to be a major hit among viewers and critics alike. The series has a 92% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has reached the number one spot on Netflix’s top 10 rankings in 76 countries. Bridgerton, from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, is now Netflix’s fifth-highest ranking series.

Netflix stock (NASDAQ:NFLX) is up 1.2% following this record-breaking announcement.
