Netflix Quietly Removes Its Free Trial Offer

Netflix has discontinued its offer for a free 30-day trial for new customers. The streaming service quietly removed the offer from the site without any announcement, a move first reported by Phil Swann. Over the years, Netflix has always had some kind of trial for new members, whether it was 7 days or 30 days, but not anymore.

Free trials are not available, but you can still sign up and take advantage of all Netflix has to offer. There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no commitments. You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you.

Usually, free trials are offered for the sole reason of getting viewers hooked on a series or streaming service in general to lure them into signing up for a subscription. Netflix is enough of a household name and gets enough attention for its Originals and movies that it probably figures people will sign up even without a free period. As of July, Netflix reported close to 193 million global subscribers.

Earlier this year, Disney+ also stopped offering it’s free week pass just ahead of the premiere of Hamilton. The broadway spectacle brought in 458,000 new users in the U.S. and more than 780,000 worldwide – new paying users thanks to the removal of the free trial. Take note that these numbers only reflect mobile app downloads, and don’t account for viewers watching on Smart TVs or web browsers.

Now in order to watch Netflix, users will have to sign up for one of the plan options. Choose from Basic $8.99, Standard $12.99, or Premium $15.99.
