Netflix Now Has Streaming Rights to ‘Community’ Along With Hulu

Netflix has announced it the single-camera comedy Community will be available to stream on the platform starting April 1, 2020. This makes it the second place you can watch the show on a streaming service.

Hulu is currently home to the 2009 NBC sitcom, with all six seasons available for streaming. Global rights for the show became available for May 2021 after Hulu’s deal was up, so Netflix snagged a new deal with Community‘s producer/distributor Sony Pictures TV. This gives Netflix streaming rights for outside of the U.S. while Hulu’s contract will revert to domestic streaming only.

According to Deadline, the two streaming platforms are happy with the arrangement and closed each deal in the eight-figure range, though Netflix paid significantly more since it’s getting global rights. The new contract is rumored to be for around 3-4 years.

Community is currently available to stream on Netflix in Ireland and New Zealand, while Amazon holds rights in Canada, Australia and the UK.
