Yesterday some Reddit users pointed out that Netflix now has a screen saver that will promote Netflix originals you might like. Any time you forget about Netflix on the home screen don’t be surprised if you find a new screen saver.
This only seems to work when you are inside the Netflix app. So no need to worry about Netflix replacing your default screen saver on your media player.
It seems that all media players with the most recently Netflix app will get this new screen saver. Older Netflix apps on players such as the first gen Roku 2 and Roku 1 (now both discontinued), for example, will not have the new Netflix screen saver.
So why is Netflix working so hard to promote its new shows? Netflix is now a publicly traded company. Investors are watching Netflix’s growth to help determine the price for Netflix. Part of that is how many hours people watch and what they watch. The more people watch the more good news Netflix can promote about its originals and its subscribers.
To answer one question I am sure will come up: no, I do not know how to disable this feature. If you find a way, please let us know.
