Netflix May Soon Be Streaming on Your Next Flight

airplane-734363_960_720Love Netflix and dream of having access to it on your next long-haul flight? We have good news for you…

Well according to Engadget starting in 2018 Netflix plans to start streaming shows and movies on airplanes. Now Netflix plans to stream a “DVD quality” stream that uses just 250Kbps. You won’t confuse that with a 4K HDR stream at home, but it is good enough for a seat-back display or a tablet. And importantly, it won’t clog an aircraft’s WiFi network.

In the past, due to limited bandwidth, many airlines have blocked streaming services, such Amazon, Hulu, and Pandora, but now they hope to be able to not only offer better web browsing but to also offer solid streaming of Netflix.

Currently, there is no word on other possible services such as Amazon, Hulu, and maybe even live TV services like Sling TV, and many other similar services.

Netflix is not listing any specific airlines for this new service, but this should open the door for many airlines to start offering Netflix and maybe other streaming services in the near future.
