Netflix Makes it Easier to Transfer Your Profile As It Cracks Down on Password Sharing

Netflix is making it easier to transfer an old or deactivated account to a new account. The streaming platform started cracking down on password sharing earlier this year but now makes it easy to transfer profiles to a new or existing account.

Last October, Netflix rolled out a profile transfer tool, which was helpful for people who are moving away from parents, roomies, exes, or whoever you used to share an account within the same household. You could only transfer an existing or deactivated profile to a new account by entering your old Netflix email and password, though it did let you keep your personal recommendations, viewing history, ‘My List’, saved games, and other settings.

But now with the new Netflix Profile Transfer upgrade, you can copy a profile on an existing account to a new account or to another existing account. Move in with a new beau or get a new roommate? You can merge Netflix accounts while keeping your current profile history.

The newly improved Netflix Profile Transfer is available now. To turn on Profile Transfer:

Once you’ve selected allow, Netflix will send you a confirmation email. You can select to enable Profile Transfers immediately within the email or do nothing and the tool will activate itself within two days.

To separate your profile from an account, go to the “Transfer Profile” option. It will appear as an option on the drop-down menu that appears when you hover your cursor over your profile icon. Select “Start Profile Transfer” and sign into the account you’re transferring your profile to. Then just confirm your decision and the transfer will be complete.

You can turn off Profile Transfer in the settings option if you don’t want any profiles on your existing account transferred to another account. Turning this Profile Transfer off doesn’t prevent you from transferring profiles to your account.
