Netflix Just Released an Annoying Update to The Apple TV

If you have Netflix on a Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, or other device you know the pain of the new auto-play feature in the Netflix app. Now Apple TV owners can also feel the pain.

This week Netflix released a new update to its Apple TV app that includes the auto-play trailers feature. Now if you hover over a movie it will start to play a trailer with sound turned on by default.

It seems that Apple TV fans are not all that excited about the new update. Over on Reddit thousands of Netflix fans voiced their dismay at the new Apple TV Netflix app.

“It gets worse: If you click into a show, the menu comes up (“Watch Episode”, “Add to my List”, etc.), but the show will also start playing in the background. If you wait too long, the menu will disappear and you’ll be watching the show, even though you never clicked “Watch Episode”.

It feels a little like you’ve been coerced into watching something you may have just wanted more information on,” said /u/unndunn.

“I actually mute the television before entering Netflix for this very reason,” said /u/Deadspyder88

“When they started doing that on PS3, I actually called Netflix customer service and complained. I just want to browse titles in peace and quiet, dammit. Oh god, when did I get so old…” said M1A1_1000mph
