Netflix is Testing out Human-Curated Collections

Today, Tech Crunch shared news from Netflix about a new feature being tested that will provide curated lists of Netflix content.

These lists, called Collections, will be curated by humans rather than AI. As Tech Crunch notes, Netflix typically makes recommendations to viewers with its advanced categorization system. Those recommendations are based on genres and offer a large number of results to choose from.

Collections are based on more than just these general themes. They’re designed by an expert from the streaming service’s creative team and based on a variety of factors including “genre, tone, storyline, and character traits.”

Those who have opted into the feature test can click on Collections on their homepage to see these curated lists for themselves.

Here’s a preview of what Collections look like, from Jeff Higgins on Twitter:

Earlier this month, we talked about Disney taking aim at Netflix and the competition that’s already being stirred up by the upcoming streaming service. This new feature is just one of several changes Netflix is making in an effort to keep subscribers interested in sticking with their service.

For now, Collections is only a test available on iOS devices and not all users will have access to the feature.
