Netflix is Increasing Subscription Prices in the UK and Ireland

Netflix has announced that all of its streaming plans in the UK and Ireland are getting a price increase today. The Basic package is increasing by £1 to £6.99 in the UK and by  €1 to €8.99 in Ireland. The Standard package is increasing by £1 to £10.99 in the UK and by €2 to €14.99 in Ireland. And the Premium tier is increasing by £2 in the UK and €2 in Ireland.

These price hikes will go into effect immediately for new subscribers and existing subscribers will see the increase soon, with customers being emailed about the change 30 days before the new price goes into effect.

The price hike in the UK and Ireland follows an increase in the cost of Netflix plans in the U.S. and Canada in January.

Netflix says the price increases will allow the streaming service to “continue investing in best in class UK productions and offer a wide variety of curated quality shows and films,” in a statement similar to the one U.S. customers received when being notified about their subscription costs going up.

Netflix most recently increased prices on its plans for the UK in December 2020, with existing members getting the price hike in January 2021. Netflix attributed that price hike to improvements made to the service, as well as investing $1 billion in developing original UK content.
