Netflix is Ending User Reviews This Month

Did you remember that Netflix offers the option to create reviews on TV shows and movies? For years that option has been limited to the Netflix desktop version only. Now Netflix has announced that they plan to end the reviews option on July 30th, 2018.

This was first reported by Cnet who confirmed the change with Netflix. According to Netflix, they have started to content users who have recently used the review option.

This change comes about a year after Netflix replaced its earlier star rating system in its apps with a simpler “thumbs up/thumbs down” system. According to Netflix, the new system is easier to use and that it also produces more accurate personal recommendations for shows and movies. It also may drive viewers to watch more content. According to a recent report from Variety, Netflix saw a 200 percent increase in ratings by users with the “thumbs up/thumbs down” system during its testing.

Netflix has not commented on why they decided to end the review system. Yet for years Netflix has slowly been downplaying the feature.
