Netflix has taken steps to fight against piracy as increasingly its original shows and movies are showing up on pirate services. Last week Netflix joined a long list of Hollywood studios, including Amazon, in a lawsuit against a Kodi-box manufacturer.
Now Netflix is hiring to expand its anti-piracy team. According to a new job posting, Netflix is hiring new members for its growing Global Copyright & Content Protection Group:
“He or she will be tasked with supporting the Netflix Global Copyright & Content Protection Group in its internal tactical takedown efforts with the goal of reducing online piracy to a socially unacceptable fringe activity.”
According to the job listing the new employee will perform daily “Scanning of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Periscope, Google Search, Bing Search, VK, DailyMoption, and all other platforms used for privacy.”
The question now is will Netflix be successful but they are not allowed. Recently the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, which is spearheaded by the MPAA, launched to also go after piracy online similar to what Netflix is doing.
In recent months content owners like Netflix have made it clear that streaming piracy is now their main concern. Their goal is to drastically reduce the availability and popularity of piracy online. The question now is how successful will they be.
