According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Netflix is in the bidding wars for Tim Burton’s new series based on ‘The Addams Family,’ and is currently in the top spot. The series is said to have a 30-minute pilot and would mark Tim Burton’s first major venture into a TV series.

“As of right now, the package has multiple buyers bidding for it, including Netflix, which sources say is at the top of the list of landing the project,” Deadline reports.

Burton would possibly direct and executive produce every episode, which could be picked up for more than one season if Netflix wins the bid. The new take on the show will be written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who would also serve as showrunners and co-executive producers.

The series is said to be set in present times and portrayed from the perspective of Wednesday Addams, living in a 2020 world with her spooky and bizarre family. The family itself originated as a cartoon from Charles Addams in the 1930s, and was created into a TV series that ran from 1964 to 1966.

Netflix currently holds licensing rights to The Addams Family movie from 1991 which hit the streaming service in August of this year.
