Netflix Confirms That it Does Not Have Plans to Start Using Ads

Recently, we heard some reports from the TV industry claiming that Netflix has plans to start running ads. These rumors were mostly coming from Netflix competitors and outlets that run ads themselves and would benefit from Netflix running ads as well.

Now, Netflix has spoken out about these stories and has confirmed that there are no current or future plans for the streaming service to run ads.

Netflix knows that being an ad-free service is one of the huge draws for many subscribers, and a big part of the company’s success. They intend to keep their ad-free status as part of their strategy going forward.

Yesterday, Netflix shared their Quarter 2 numbers. While subscriber numbers are down, the company is optimistic. As part of their announcement, Netflix said in a letter to investors that they will remain ad-free. The letter says: “That remains a deep part of our brand proposition; when you read speculation that we are moving into selling advertising, be confident that this is false. We believe we will have a more valuable business in the long term by staying out of competing for ad revenue and instead entirely focusing on competing for viewer satisfaction.”
