Netfix has announced that it will be launching in Australia sometime in 2015. Already many in Australians use VPNs to access Netflix. Some estimated 200,000 Australians already have Netflix accounts and will now have the ability to use Netflix without VPNs or DNS services.
This announcement did not go unnoticed by Australian cable companies. Foxtel this week dropped the cost of their entry level 42-channel package to $25 per month. Hopefully this is a trend that will spill over into other countries as services like Netflix continue to grow.
Several Netflix like services are already popular in Australia. Netflix hopes their catalog of exclusive content will help push them to be the leading services in Australia as they are in the United States. Series like Orange Is the New Black and House of Cards with new series joining them like Marco Polo, Sense8, Bojack Horseman, Daredevil and Richie Rich in 2015 among others. This should give Australians a reason to pick Netflix over competitors.
