Nearly 2 Million People Watched Amazon’s NFL Live Stream

Fans of soccer watching matchAmazon has a hit on its hands with the new Thursday Night NFL live streams.

According to Reuters nearly 2 million people logged on to Amazon to watch Thursday Night Football, the US National Football League said on Friday.

Over 1.8 million people watched the kickoff show and game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers. That is down slightly from the first game that aired on Twitter in 2016, which had 2.3 million viewers.

The drop in viewership is likely caused by Twitter being free and open to all and Amazon locking the stream down for just Amazon Prime subscribers.

Amazon is hoping to make live sports a bigger part of its Amazon’s Prime Video service. Recently it has been reported that Amazon is in talks with several different sports leagues including the Premier League.

Amazon is not the only service hoping live sports will help it stand out. Twitter just struck a deal with the PGA and Facebook is also rumored to be in talks with sports leagues to expand its own free streaming service.
