NBC News Is Planning a Streaming Service for Cord Cutters

Channel Surfing ManAre you a fan of NBC News but don’t want to pay for cable TV? NBC News is working on a new streaming service for cord cutters.

NBC News Chairman Andy Lack and his division’s digital chief, Nick Ascheim, announced Wednesday at a news lunch at the network’s headquarters that a news streaming service from NBC is in the works.

Details are still thin, and NBC has not said if the service will be free like CBS News or a paid subscription service like the recently announced Fox News service.

From the looks of it this new service will not give you access to a live feed of MSNBC. What you are likely looking at is original programming created for the streaming service or maybe free access to previously aired content on MSNBC and NBC News with maybe live breaking news.

Right now exactly what this will look like is unknown. It does sound like NBC is hoping to have a service live in time for the midterm elections in November 2018.

This does show one more effort by NBC and others to reach out to a new audience: cord cutters.
