NBC & CBS Are in Negotiations to Stream More Local Affiliates

Yesterday we learned that Fox and Nexstar had struck a deal to bring its Fox affiliates to live TV streaming services such as DIRECTV NOW, PlayStation Vue, and Hulu.

Now Cord Cutters News has received a copy of an email from Nexstar staff that states negotiations are under way with NBC and CBS. These talks are aimed at bringing Nexstar-owned NBC and CBS affiliates to live TV streaming services. (Nexstar already has a deal with ABC in place.)

According to the email, these negotiations will be “concluded within the next few weeks.” This deal could bring in over 30 more locals to live TV streaming services around the United States.

It is important to remember that striking a deal does not mean the channel will show up next week. Right now it seems to take about three months from the time a deal is announced until we start seeing the first locals appear on different live TV streaming services.

It is also important to remember that just because Nexstar and NBC strike a deal that still means DIRECTV NOW, Hulu, and PlayStation Vue need to strike deals with NBC for the Nexstar affiliates. After a deal is made, back-end work needs to be done to add the channel. Only then can the channels go live.

While there is still a lot of work to be done, it is great news to see that soon you should have access to even more locals.
