Movie studios and major theater chains continue to adjust their summer plans amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Expected blockbusters like Mulan and Tenet have been pushed back multiple times and chains like AMC have delayed wide reopening plans as multiple states continue to implement and adjust phased reopenings around the country.

The latest shifts include a move for Disney’s Mulan, which was initially set to premiere in March. Now, the live-action remake is scheduled to premiere on Aug. 21st. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was also recently pushed to Aug. 12th, after earlier being delayed until July 31st.

Meanwhile, major movie studios like AMC Theatres have announced updated reopening plans. AMC now says 450 locations will resume operations on July 30th, with 150 more opening in August. The company says it also expects “at least some” of its theaters outside the US to open by July 30th.

Cinemark, which aimed to open up a handful of Dallas-area theaters this month, with a wider reopening on July 3rd, has also tweaked its plans. At the moment, five Cinemark theaters in Texas and one in Florida are open, and it expects a large number of locations to open up starting on July 24th, including theaters in nearly 20 states.

This is clearly an evolving situation, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see these dates, and others, shift as time goes by. We’ll keep a close eye on various reopening plans and keep you updated as we learn more.
