This change will see MSNBC relying solely on its own newsroom for coverage, except in Washington, D.C., where a partial reliance on NBC News resources will continue temporarily. The network has been proactively building its own newsroom to support this shift, hiring new talent and establishing its own standards and guidelines for reporting. By October 20, MSNBC will complete its separation from NBC News, taking full control of its Washington, D.C. operations. From this date forward, the network will no longer depend on NBC News correspondents or crews for its D.C.-based coverage. This final step ensures that all aspects of MSNBC’s reporting, including live shots and field operations, will be managed entirely by its own teams. Several high-profile journalists are making the move to MSNBC full-time, including Jacob Soboroff, who will serve as a senior national and political correspondent, Vaughn Hillyard as a senior White House correspondent, Ken Dilanian as a justice correspondent, and Antonia Hylton, who will continue her role as a correspondent and co-host of The Weekend: Primetime. To further bolster its newsroom, MSNBC is actively recruiting for 50 new roles across various sectors, including newsgathering, digital content, audio production, and special programming.
However, not all NBC News talent will transition to MSNBC. Steve Kornacki, a prominent figure known for his data-driven election coverage, has chosen to remain with NBC News, along with several other correspondents. As part of the spinoff agreement, Versant will retain access to NBC News’ Decision Desk through the end of the year, ensuring continuity for election-related coverage.
