Prime Video is going big on Beast Games once again. The streaming platform has renewed the hit reality competition series created by YouTube megastar MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) for two additional seasons following a blockbuster debut that shattered records and viewer expectations.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beast Games became the most-watched unscripted series in Prime Video history, drawing 50 million viewers since its December 2024 premiere. Donaldson will return as host and executive producer as the show heads into its second and third seasons.
“MrBeast achieved a significant milestone for our global Prime Video customers, bringing to life the largest reality competition series ever,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios.
“Our goal was to deliver the biggest, boldest competition series ever created, and the response has exceeded every expectation,” said Jeff Housenbold, CEO of MrBeast Industries. “Beast Games resonated with fans around the world, and that’s a testament to the creativity of Jimmy and the entire Beast team. We’re grateful to Amazon for their continued partnership, and we’re excited to raise the bar even higher in the next two seasons.”
The Origins of Beast Games
Beast Games premiered on December 19, 2024, with two episodes released on Prime Video and a companion video titled 2,000 People Fight for $5,000,000 posted on MrBeast’s YouTube channel the same day. That video served as a prequel, showing how the initial group of 2,000 applicants was cut down to the 1,000 who would go on to compete in the series.
Created by Donaldson, Tyler Conklin, Sean Klitzner, and Mack Hopkins, the show was inspired by Netflix’s Squid Game and MrBeast’s own viral 2021 video “$456,000 Squid Game in Real Life.” The concept was to create the most extravagant, high-stakes reality competition ever aired. With a production budget exceeding $100 million and filmed across Las Vegas, Toronto, and the uninhabited La Vivienda Island in Panama, Beast Games pulled out all the stops.
It broke 44 Guinness World Records, including the largest physical cash prize on a reality set ($5 million), the largest total prize fund ($10 million), and the most money ever won in a single reality TV episode ($2.02 million).
Despite facing a lawsuit over alleged mistreatment of contestants and mixed reviews from critics, the show’s popularity soared. Viewers were captivated by the massive scale, dramatic challenges, and life-changing payouts.
