Movies Anywhere Viewing Time is Up 97% Since 2017

Movies Anywhere has seen a surge in time spent on the service with in-app viewing hours up 97% this year compared to 2017. The service has also seen the number of “mega-purchasers” rise lately, a term given to customers who purchase 24 or more movies within 12 months.

Customers who fall under this category have increased by 37% in the last three years, which is not surprising given the boom in digital media consumption. DEG reported that spending was up 26% in the first half of this year compared to the $12 billion consumers spent in the first six months of 2019. The group said consumers spent $1.5 billion on digital entertainment transactions through Video-on-Demand and movie purchases during Q2 of 2020, up 54% since that same quarter last year.

The Disney, Warner Bros., Universal and Sony Pictures-ran platform serves as a hub for all your purchased movies and shows, regardless of what service you bought them from. That includes Apple TV, Prime Video, Vudu, Xfinity, Google Play/YouTube, Microsoft Movies & TV, FandangoNOW, Verizon Fios TV, and most recently, DirecTV.

“We are thrilled to be able to expand our availability within the Pay TV ecosystem with the addition of another one of the nation’s largest providers,” said Karin Gilford, general manager, Movies Anywhere. “We know DirecTV subscribers are passionate about movies and will benefit from Movies Anywhere’s ability to bring their favorite movies together. Now, they can access their collection across a multitude of devices using the Movies Anywhere app or the DirecTV platform, regardless of where they initially purchased or redeemed.”

Movies Anywhere also recently launched its Watch Together feature which allows you to co-view films with your friends from different devices for a synced experience that’s easy to use. It also launched Screen Pass, a beta feature that allows you to share your account with friends and family.
