MoviePass Adds Peak Pricing

MoviePass today announced a change to how the service works. In the past, you could see one movie a day no matter the time of day. Now during peak times, MoviePass is adding a surcharge to the movie you see. Now, for example, a 7 PM showing of a very popular movie may have a $3.43 surcharge. MoviePass will also show you when a movie does not yet have an added fee but growing demand could mean they will add peak pricing soon.

MoviePass is trying to make the service more profitable. Recently it was announced that their parent company was looking for new funding to help keep the service running.

Not all areas have Peak Pricing yet. According to MoviePass Peak Pricing is rolling out “gradually over the next several weeks in order to ensure the best possible experience.”

At MoviePass, we are committed to enhancing the moviegoing experience. As we continue to blaze past three million loyal subscribers, our promise to you is to provide the most affordable service for everyone.

“As we shared with you a couple of weeks ago, the evolution of our product –which begins to roll out today – is centered upon a demand-based pricing system for movies and showtimes.” MoviePass said in the email to subscribers. “As we shared with you a couple of weeks ago, the evolution of our product –which begins to roll out today – is centered upon a demand-based pricing system for movies and showtimes.”

At this time MoviePass has not announced what markets now have the peak pricing. You will need to check your app to see if it has arrived in your area.
