This week we surveyed more than 400 cord cutters asking them what they use for internet. Cable and fiber internet services still dominate, but 5G home internet is seeing steady growth.
According to our survey, 12% of cord cutters now use a 5G home internet service making it the third most popular internet service for cord cutting.
Here is how the survey results broke down:
- Cable internet: 47%
- Fiber: 35%
- 5G home internet: 12%
- Satellite internet like SpaceX: 4%
- DSL: 2%
There is no surprise that fiber and cable internet are the most popular—they have a huge head start over newcomers like 5G home internet. What may be a surprise though is that very quickly 12% of cord cutters have switched to 5G home internet services.
So far in 2024 more than 298,000 Comcast and Spectrum customers have canceled their internet service. This is part of a growing cord cutting 2.0 trend that sees Americans looking to cancel not just cable TV but also cable internet to fully break free from their cable companies.
Americans now have more options for home internet—something many never had before. In 2024 that is helping the cord cutting 2.0 trend to grow.
