SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, has announced a significant shift in its streaming strategy. The network is now available to stream through MLB.TV and the MLB app, providing fans within the Mets’ home television territory with a new way to access live games, exclusive programming, and comprehensive coverage of New York sports. This move marks an important step in expanding access to SNY content, offering greater flexibility and convenience for fans.
Previously, streaming SNY content required a separate SNY app. However, with this transition, authenticated users with participating pay TV providers can now seamlessly access SNY through their existing MLB.TV subscriptions or by linking their TV provider credentials to the MLB app. Alternatively, fans can purchase a dedicated SNY subscription package directly through the MLB platform.
This integration offers several benefits for Mets fans. Firstly, it centralizes access to SNY content within the widely-used MLB app, eliminating the need for a separate application. Secondly, it potentially expands the reach of SNY to a wider audience, leveraging the established user base of MLB.TV and the MLB app.
The SNY offering on the MLB platform includes a comprehensive range of content. Fans can watch live Mets games, including pre- and post-game shows, as well as year-round Jets content and coverage of all New York sports. However, it’s important to note that this service is specifically for fans residing within the Mets’ home television territory and is not an out-of-market product. Games broadcast exclusively on national networks (Fox, ESPN, Apple) or WPIX are also not included in this offering.
For fans outside the Mets’ home television territory, an MLB.TV subscription is still required to access SNY Mets games. However, single-team Mets MLB.TV subscribers will now be able to stream all Mets games airing on SNY, along with the 24/7 SNY network feed, through the MLB app.
This transition also marks the eventual discontinuation of the standalone SNY app. While currently, fans can still access select Mets spring training games through the SNY app, by Opening Day, the full SNY network will be available exclusively through the MLB app.
This move reflects a broader trend of media companies consolidating streaming offerings within larger platforms. By integrating SNY into the MLB app, both organizations aim to streamline access for users and capitalize on the growing popularity of streaming services. For Mets fans, this change promises a more convenient and centralized way to experience their favorite team and network, all within the familiar environment of the MLB app.
