MLB TV is Down on Opening Day and Baseball Fans are Furious

Baseball fans have hit social media to find out why they aren’t able to watch their team play on Opening Day.

X is being flooded with fans saying they aren’t able to log in to MLB.TV or are getting error messages when they try to watch games. Others are reassuring that they weren’t able to access a game but finally got into the app after a long wait. Still others are saying that the app is only working on phones.

The error message many users are seeing says “Video Error An issue occurred when trying to play your video. Please restart your app or try again later.”

On X, Barstool Tate said “Am I overreacting when I say @MLBTV needs to refund everyone for the entire season if they miss your teams first pitch? Opening Day is the best part of baseball for the next 8 months.”

Another user, @jaycTony said “MLB TV not working during literally their most important day of the year is so classic MLB. Charging $150/year and then not providing a working product/service is quite the racket!!”

With so many people trying to tune in for Opening Day at the same time, it’s possible that the app can’t handle the traffic. Down Detector noted over 20,000 outages when games started around 4:00 p.m. ET.

MLB.TV has not made a statement on social media yet. The MLB Fan Support page on X is responding to individual messages, saying that they’ll “look into it right away.”
