It has been reported that at E3 next month Microsoft will release an Xbox TV that won’t have any of the gaming features of the Xbox One but will have the streaming apps. This is similar to what Sony did a few years ago with their streaming player that at the core was just a PlayStation 3 without the gaming. Hopefully Microsoft will have better luck than Sony did because Sony quickly shut down their PlayStation streaming boxes after poor sales.
There are rumors that these Xboxes will enable you to stream games from your main Xbox One to the new Xbox TVs allowing you to play games in multiple rules from one Xbox One.
Very little is known right now but many have been expecting Microsoft to make this move for some time. Microsoft clearly sees the Xbox One as a media device and are putting a lot of effort into selling it as a media device; however, the high cost may encourage some who would buy a second one for the living room to buy a much cheaper Roku or Fire TV.
We will be watching E3 closely and will post updates as we learn more about Microsoft’s plans.
