“After careful consideration, we’ve decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10,” revealed a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. “We’re always listening to fan feedback and we look forward to bringing more requested experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year.”
The DVR would have been designed to work with an antenna to record free over the air TV. Sadly, these plans are dead, but you can still use a USB adapter to watch live over the air TV through your Xbox One- you just won’t be able to DVR it.
Not only are the Xbox One DVR plans have come to an end, the free Microsoft Media Center with DVR that used to be widely popular with cord cutters is also dead, leaving cord cutters without a DVR option from Microsoft.
Microsoft was once the leader in free DVR options, but for now, DVRs will no longer be a part of Microsoft’s plans going forward.
