MGM Is Shutting Down Stargate Command & Making It Free on YouTube

Good news and bad news for Stargate fans. Last week MGM announced that they will be shutting down Stargate Command. They plan to move this content to YouTube and will make it free for all Stargate fans starting in 2020.

“We’re excited to announce that we’ll be transitioning much of our Stargate Command content to YouTube. Shows like Dialing Home and Recon, which were previously only available to All-Access Pass holders, will be made available on YouTube without charge beginning in 2020. It’s important to us that Stargate content reaches fans everywhere and we believe YouTube is the right place to help us achieve that goal,” MGM said in a statement on their website and was first spotted by /r/CordCutters.

According to MGM, on December 31, 2019, they will be closing Stargate Command. MGM says if you prepaid beyond that date, they will be issuing refunds.

“Stargate fans truly are the best fans and we’re excited to continue connecting with you on the channels and via the communities you love. With your continued support, we plan to grow this timeless franchise in the years ahead. Please read more in our FAQ, which contains details about the transition, including refunds for eligible All-Access Pass holders!” MGM said in a statement on their site.

This may spell bad news for fans hoping for more original Stargate content, but with most of the Stargate programming already included in Amazon Prime many fans struggled to justify the cost of Stargate Command when Prime offers so much more. Now it seems that MGM has seen the writing on the wall and has decided to shutter the service.
