Last week, cable provider Mediacom was among dozens of companies to sign on to the Federal Communications Commission’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge, which sought to ensure service and access during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. Now, the company has detailed some of the steps it’s taking in response, including faster speeds on its Connect2Compete program, extended pricing discounts, and a temporary halt on monthly data allowances.
Here’s a quick rundown of Mediacom’s plans:
- Upgrading the low-cost Connect2Compete internet program from 10 Mbps down/1 Mbps up to 25 Mbps down/3 Mbps up.
- Offering 60 days of free service for qualifying families who subscribe to Connect2Compete before May 15th.
- Extending pricing on its Access Internet 60 service for new customers to $19.99/month for the next year (down from a regular $29.99 per month).
- Halting monthly data allowances on all broadband service tiers through May 15th.
- Offering free WiFi hotspot access for 60 days.
“By helping as many people as possible get online, we hope to create opportunities for patients to safely connect with their doctors through telemedicine applications, for students to continue their studies online, and for employees to work from home,” John Pascarelli, Mediacom’s EVP of Operations, said in the press release.
We’re continuing to track all the discounts, deals, and upgrades companies are offering to help customers deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
