Another entry in the MCU is coming to streaming after Marvel Studios tweeted that “Thunderbolts” is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, August 27. Fans of the long-running franchise who missed out on it during its theatrical run, or want to relive the action of Marvel’s misfit team of heroes, can do so from their couch.
The 36th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe centers around a group of antiheroes who have to work together to complete one mission with their lives on the line. Directed by Jake Schrier, the film features an ensemble cast of familiar faces and fresh, new characters:
- Florence Pugh — Yelena Belova
- Sebastian Stan — Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
- Wyatt Russell — John Walker/U.S. Agent
- Olga Kurylenko — Antonia Dreykov (Taskmaster)
- Lewis Pullman — Robert “Bob” Reynolds (Sentry/the Void)
- Geraldine Viswanathan — Melissa “Mel” Gold (Songbird).
- David Harbour — Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian.
- Hannah John-Kamen — Ava Starr/Ghost.
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus — Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
With its upcoming arrival on Disney+, you can enjoy it with the other interconnected Marvel stories, including shows, spin-offs, and big-screen sequels that riff off each other.
Shot on a $180 million budget, Thunderbolts brought in over $380 million at the box office, receiving praise for its tighter, character-driven focus and cast of characters. Although Thunderbolts didn’t become the box-office juggernaut some expected, it’s one of the MCU’s more character-forward entries, making it a fun change of pace for the franchise. Additionally, the comic book film was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike due to its portrayal of mental health.
Mark August 27 on your calendar and get your Disney+ subscription ready. Whether you want to argue about which antihero is secretly the best, rewatch the MCU moments that set up Thunderbolts, or just enjoy a sharper, character-driven Marvel movie, you’re a click away from easy watch.
