You May Soon Have a New Option to Stream Your Local Channels

There is a new streaming service with a goal to stream your locals. Telletopia is a small streaming company with big dreams of streaming local channels.

Last year Telletopia joined other companies pushing for the FCC to change its governing rules of retransmission to allow services like Telletopia to negotiate licensing deals with broadcasters. Now it seems that it has given up on that hope and have a new plan.

“At some point it became clear that this was not an issue that the FCC was going to take up and move forward on,” a Telletopia rep told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Now Telletopia has decided to take advantage of an old broadcasting exemption that lets owners of multifamily units retransmit antenna signals within their buildings. So Telletopia has been working building by building to bring streaming locals to four California towns.

Streaming the locals is 100% free but if you want unlimited DVR storage it will cost you $10 a month. Though unlike other streaming services Sling TV, DIRECTV NOW, and PlayStation Vue to name a few you won’t find any networks like ESPN or AMC.

For now Telletopia is having a slow roll and it is limited to just the locals. Though now that the service is live it is possible other companies in different markets will be jumping on the bandwagon.
