Max’s B/R Sports Add-On Will Remain Free For Another Few Months Due to Technical Issues

When Max launched its B/R Sports package, it promised free access to NBA, NHL, and other sports games found on Warner Bros. Discovery’s cable networks — at least until the end of February. Now, thanks to technical issue, it will remain free for another few months.

The free trial was supposed to end right before the start of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, with the event driving demand to pay $9.99 a month for the add-on. But Max users will now get access to the tournament — and all other sporting events it carries — for free.

“The B/R Sports Add-On will continue to be made available to Max subscribers on us for a few more months as we finalize some tech integrations that will ensure a more seamless customer experience with our platform partners,” the company said in a statement.

Deadline was the first to report on the story.

This is a boon for Max users, who get an extended period of free access to B/R Sports, allowing them to watch March Madness and presumably most of the NBA and NHL seasons. B/R Sports represented Max’s big push to integrate live sports into streaming, with the extra $9.99 fee expected to drive additional revenue to the business.

Max didn’t specify an exact date on when a charge would begin.
