Another streaming service gets the bundle treatment as Spectrum and Warner Bros. Discovery have come to an agreement that will provide Spectrum TV Select customers the Max with Ads plan for no additional cost.
As part of the two companies’ new distribution agreement, Spectrum TV Select customers can enjoy the premium streaming service, which retails for $9.99 per month, and get access to a treasure trove of must-see entertainment from top brands like HBO, Warner Bros., Max Originals, DC, and Harry Potter. Plus, you can binge-watch iconic shows like “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory” without spending an extra dime.
“Integrating services like Max into Spectrum TV Select furthers our goal of offering fulsome video products that include the best of linear and streaming programming,” said Tom Montemagno, Executive Vice President, Programming Acquisition for Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand.
2024 has been a busy year for Spectrum’s strategy of adding steaming platform bundles to its TV packages. Spectrum TV subscribers can stream Disney+ with Ads after the companies struck a deal earlier this year. ESPN+ is another Disney streaming platform, that is free for Spectrum TV Select Plus customers. After Spectrum renegotiated its distribution agreement with Paramount, Spectrum TV customers can now stream ad-based versions of Paramount+ and BET+ for free.
“Through our hybrid distribution strategy, customers in our most popular packages now have access to seamless entertainment with the ad-supported versions of Max, Disney+, ESPN+, Paramount+, ViX and Tennis Channel+, with more to come – up to an $80 per month retail value by the first half of 2025. We appreciate WBD’s shared commitment to re-imagining the future of video and embracing a model that is good for our respective customers and both our companies,” Montemagno said.
Starting today, Spectrum TV Select customers can stream their favorite shows on Max by using the Xumo Stream Box, Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, or any other compatible device with the Max app. The landmark deal gives Spectrum customers access to HBO Originals like “Dune: Prophecy” and “The Penguin,” Max Originals including the Emmy-winner “Hacks,” fan favorites like HBO Originals “Succession,” “The White Lotus,” “The Sopranos” and “Sex and the City.”
“Launching Max with Spectrum is a key part of our landmark deal with Charter, and an exciting new place for millions of homes across the country to enjoy our premium streaming content, including award-winning series and films from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, and so much more,” said Scott Miller, Warner Bros. Discovery President of Networks and Streaming Distribution.
For WBD, this is the second deal this week where the company has extended its distribution deal to include Max with a traditional TV provider. Comcast and WBD worked out a deal that gave the cable provider US Max bundling rights, which could lead to a potential Max and Peacock bundle.
This latest deal between WBD and Charter Communications puts Spectrum in a great position to have a robust collection of streaming apps for its hybrid model. In early 2025, customers subscribed to the Spectrum TV Select packages can enjoy ad-supported versions of Max, Discovery+, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+, ESPN+, AMC+, BET+, ViX and Tennis Channel+.
