Update: YouTube seems to now be back online after an outage earlier today. Though some issues may remain on YouTube apps.
Update #2 YouTube in is fully back online.
On February 17, 2026, a significant technical disruption struck YouTube, leaving millions of users unable to access the world’s largest video-sharing platform. The outage began in the evening hours, around 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and quickly spread across regions, affecting both the main website and mobile applications. Users attempting to load the homepage encountered error messages, blank screens, or endless loading indicators, while video playback failed entirely for most.
The outage seems to only be impacting the YouTube home page, as if you link directly to a creator or a video, YouTube is working.
Reports flooded outage monitoring services, with over 300,000 complaints registered in the United States alone within a short period. Similar spikes appeared internationally, indicating a widespread issue rather than isolated network problems. The primary symptoms included the main YouTube site displaying a generic error notice, subscriptions feeds refusing to populate, and search functions becoming unresponsive. Many described the platform as completely inaccessible, with fresh attempts to visit youtube.com resulting in the same frustrating barriers.
Interestingly, YouTube TV, the separate live television streaming service operated by Google, continued to function for a large number of subscribers during the peak of the disruption. Yet some report they have been logged out of their YouTube TV apps. Viewers relying on YouTube TV for live channels, DVR recordings, and on-demand content from broadcast networks reported minimal or no interruptions. This separation highlighted the distinct infrastructure supporting the two services, even though both fall under the broader YouTube umbrella. While some isolated complaints surfaced about YouTube TV, the volume remained far lower compared to the main platform, allowing cord-cutters and sports fans to continue watching without major issues.
Google has not yet released an official explanation for the cause, though speculation points to potential server-side failures, database synchronization problems, or a cascading effect from internal network configurations.
For now, the main YouTube experience remains heavily impaired for most users, though YouTube TV stands as a functional lifeline for those subscribed to its live TV offerings. Restoration efforts continue, with hopes that normal service will resume soon and prevent further inconvenience during what is typically one of the busiest viewing times of the day.
