Ratings are down because all of our national broadcasts are exclusively available on cable, which is losing subs daily. Football benefits from being on broadcast tv which is in every digital and traditional package along with gambling available in some of the biggest markets

Mark Cuban went on to say that eventually, the NBA will offer a low cost digital package. “On the flip side we help all cable broadcasters and distributors stay alive by keeping sports packaging alive, hopefully for the next 10yrs or more. Once it makes sense to simulcast streams in a low cost digital package, numbers will change” Mark Cuban said in a tweet.
Mark Cuban is pushing for a longer 82 game NBA season with the hopes that it will help keep customers paying for cable TV. The question now is, will that work.
This year the NBA made NBA TV available as a standalone a la carte TV channel if you are willing to pay. If TV ratings continue to fall, it raises the question if the NBA will become far more cord cutting friendly.
