Mansa is a New Free Streaming Service Founded By Actors For Black Culture

Today Mansa announced it was launching a new free ad-supported streaming service that will bring a selection of Black culture content. This service is being founded by actors David Oyelow, Chiké Okonkwo, and Nate Parker. Joining them is entrepreneur and film financier Zak Tanjeloff.

Mansa describes itself on its website as: “This is not your average streaming experience. We’re tearing down barriers and bringing all formats together. We’re showcasing new talent and vets with stories from across the globe. We’re connecting viewers with one another with our “Watch Out Loud Feature”, and we’ll be connecting creators to their audiences with Web3 features.”

To help launch the service, they have raised $8 million in funding from multiple investors.

“Our target audience — Gen Z and younger Millennials — are spending almost eight hours a day,” Tanjeloff said. “For four hours a day in front of a television screen, watching long-form content, and the other four hours in front of their phone watching short-form content. So what we thought would be interesting was if we can marry the two in a really interesting way that nobody is doing.”

“We aim to change the paradigm around creator fairness, solving to address long felt challenges in the industry through addressing, ownership, transparency and community on a foundational level,” said Oyelowo. “Mansa is diligently looking for content creators and companies within entertainment to work with, building a centralized hub where all can thrive together. To this point, that is something the establishment has been reluctant to do as a matter of practice. We will be announcing some very exciting partnerships and shows very soon.”

Currently available on iOS, Android, and on its website Mansa.com. Look for Mansa to come to Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and more in the future.
