Malware is Infecting Fire TV Devices

Do you sideload apps on your Fire TV? Well, it may be installing a malware that is using your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick to min for cryptocurrency.

The new ADB.Miner software spreads by downloading and sideloading 3rd party apps for the Fire TV. So far there have been no reports of getting the new malware from the official Amazon Fire TV App Store. Once your Fire TV is infected it will be turned into a miner to earn cryptocurrency for the creator of ADB.Miner.

If you sideload apps from 3rd party developers and your Fire TV is suddenly very slow it is very likely you have been infected. You may also see a screen that says “Test” with a green Android robot icon that will randomly appear on infected Fire TV devices. Sometimes your videos will suddenly stop playing and your apps will abruptly stop.

It is important to remember that if you just use apps from the official Fire TV app store you should have nothing to worry about. So far it spreads through 3rd party apps. These 3rd party apps typical won’t install unless you deliberately enable the ability to install 3rd party apps from unknown sources in the Fire TV settings.
