Now one of the largest sellers of Android-powered boxes no longer sells boxes with preinstalled Kodi add-ons.
We talked with the man behind the Idroidnation line of Android-powered boxes, and he gave us a look behind the scenes as to why they will no longer be including preinstalled 3rd party add-ons.
Legality, at the end of the day, there is a legal grey area and who knows what the future holds for Kodi. We are here to stay, offer a lifetime warranty on our current models, and want to distance ourselves from the fully loaded/piracy/Kodi box reputation. We want to be known for using the latest hardware, best software, based in the US, great customer service, unbeatable warranty, and being innovative with our latest set top boxes. Our boxes run all the major streaming apps greatNetflix, Hulu, etc.
This change comes after a long list of crack downs on Kodi box sellers who include 3rd party add-ons.
Almost a year ago the team behind Kodi announced that it planned to start enforcing its trademark against anyone who sold boxes preloaded with these add-ons. Even the community of Kodi users have mobilized in the past to help identify copyright infringing websites.
More recently there has been a move in some countries to sue or arrest sellers of boxes that come preloaded with piracy add-ons.
Now it seems that the focus on the fight against piracy has moved from torrents to streaming with a main focus on many of the third-party Kodi add-ons that promote free movies and TV shows along with free live sports streamed online.
The only question now is how successful this effort will be over the next year.
