Break out your Demo Day sledgehammers, Fixer Upper is being revived for a new season in 2021, this time on the hosts’ own Magnolia Network. Season 6 of the cult-favorite home improvement series will join an already robust slate of shows and originals headed to the network.
Apparently, Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines recently decided to break out the shiplap again and revive the show after realizing how much they missed doing it, Variety reports. The husband and wife duo has been busy building their new Magnolia Network but seems to enjoy the hands-on aspect of their career that brought them to this point
“The day we wrapped our final episode of ‘Fixer Upper,’ we really believed it was a chapter closed,” said the Gaines in a release. “We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again. These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don’t think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts. We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!”
Fixer Upper has a massive fan following and consistently pulled in an average of 19.6 million viewers a week while on HGTV, all the way through its fifth and last season. The new season is scheduled for sometime in 2021, but it’s unclear whether pandemic-related issues will delay it. Since the show takes place in the couple’s hometown of Waco Texas, travel won’t be an issue and no major crews or cast members are required. So the show could possibly start shooting at any time and still adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Magnolia Network already has 14 originals in production, with 22 more in the development stages. The network launch was delayed and Magnolia Network is now set to launch in 2021.
