Logitech Says It’s Discontinuing Harmony Remote Control Line

It looks like we’ve reached the end of a universal remote era. On Friday, Logitech announced on its support page that the company will no longer manufacture its line of Harmony universal remote controls. However, the post also mentions Logitech plans to continue supporting its Harmony products, so current and potential future users don’t have to worry about devices suddenly becoming inoperable anytime soon.

The long-running Harmony line traces its lineage all the way back to 2001, when a company called Easy Zapper first started producing universal remote controls. After a name change to Intrigue Technologies, Logitech came in and acquired the company in 2004 and carried on the Harmony line under its own name.

Since then, the Harmony lineup has evolved to include dozens of models and accessories and a number of models populate the current lineup. Logitech says the remotes will continue to be available on its site and at other retailers, and added that it intends to keep its device database and companion software up to date. Current options include the high-end Harmony Elite at $349

“We plan to support our Harmony community and new Harmony customers, which includes access to our software and apps to set up and manage your remotes. We also plan to continue to update the platform and add devices to our Harmony database. Customer and warranty support will continue to be offered,” the support page post states.

In an accompanying FAQ section, Logitech says it will keep supporting the Harmony line as long as consumers are still using their devices. You can find out more at Logitech’s support page here.
