Lizzie McGuire Showrunner Leaves the Show’s Disney+ Revival Stopping Production

Lizzie McGuire fans were happy to hear that Disney+ was planning to bring the show back, including some of the original cast and the show’s creator as showrunner of the revival. While the series is still set to launch on the streaming platform in 2020, the show’s creator, Terri Minsky, has stepped away from her role.

The exclusive report for Variety included the following statement from Disney.

“Fans have a sentimental attachment to ‘Lizzie McGuire’ and high expectations for a new series.  After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”

Production of the revival has been put on hold while the company looks for a new showrunner to take over where Minsky left off. Hilary Duff and Rachel Winter will continue to executive-produce with Ranada Shepard as the co-executive producer.

The new series will pick up just before Lizzie’s 30th birthday. Hilary Duff will be back in the role of Lizzie, with the story focusing on her life as she navigates adulthood. Other returning cast members include Adam Lamberg, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas.
