LG Announces Support for 3.0 Over-the-Air TV

3.0 over-the-air TV is the new standard that will bring 4K to your broadcast TV. Not only will you get 4K but you’ll also get a host of other features such as better signal penetration inside your home and even video on demand over the air.

Now LG has announced that it plans to start including 3.0 tuners in all of its TVs sold in Korea beginning this year and rolling out to the United States shortly thereafter. These TVs will support both the current over-the-air TV standard and the new 3.0 standard.

“The early launching in Korea is a really wonderful on-ramp for those of us in the United States,” he said. “We’ll build economies of scale on the production side.”

LG is not the only one pushing 3.0 over-the-air TV. Sinclair, the largest owner of broadcast TV stations, is giving cellphone manufacturers 1 million free antennas to include in their smart phones. Sinclair hopes that you will watch live TV not only at home but also on the road.

3.0 over-the-air TV was first tested in October 2014 on WKOW-TV in Madison, Wisconsin. This test was done in partnership with LG, one of the early supporters of the standard, along with Sinclair. In July 2017 they will test it again in Cleveland, Ohio.
