LG has made a name for itself with its highly regarded OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs, but the TV maker also continues to refine its LCD models, including a newly announced line of 4K and 8K TVs based on what it’s calling QNED Mini LED display tech.

The company says its new QNED Mini LED TVs leverage “up to almost 30,000 tiny LEDs,” up to 2,500 dimming zones, and fancy local dimming tech to offer up impressive picture quality, including a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Those impressive numbers stem from the top-of-the-line 86-inch 8K model, but the company is promising strong performance throughout the new line.

“Our new QNED Mini LED series is a premium home entertainment option that expands and improves the LCD TV space and gives consumers another terrific viewing choice,” Nam Ho-jun, senior vice president of R&D at LG’s Home Entertainment Company, said in a press release.

In all, LG says its 2021 QNED line will include 10 models at both 4K and 8K resolution — with various screen sizes up to and including that high-end 8K 86-inch display. The company is expected to show off that 86-incher at CES 2021 early next month, and we’re looking forward to learning more during the event.
